5 Warning Signs Your Shoes Need a Cobbler (Before It’s Too Late)

1. The Soles Feel “Spongy” or Thin

If you feel every pebble on the sidewalk when you walk, your outsoles have worn dangerously thin. If you press the center of the sole with your thumb and it feels soft, hollow, or spongy, the outer layer is nearly gone.

Why act now: If you wear through the outer rubber or leather sole completely, you will begin grinding down the internal cork layer and structural welting. Replacing a worn outsole is routine for a professional shoe cobbler, but replacing a ruined internal mid-sole structure is much more labor-intensive.

2. The Dreaded “Clicking” Sound (Worn Heel Tips)
